More than a game.
A standard.
Empire Sports Club was founded in 1982, the first club in Hong Kong to bring real ice-hockey education to young players. In more than forty years our goal has never changed — not to fill the ice or look busy, but genuine player development.
Built for Hong Kong
Founder and head coach Terence Chim came up through the Hong Kong national team. In 1982 he saw that the city had no development system of its own — limited rinks, expensive ice, a broken pipeline of players — and set out to build one shaped around Hong Kong's particular conditions.
Forty years on, the same family still runs the bench. We have coached three generations, and watched children take their first step on the ice, go on to represent Hong Kong, and come back to coach.
Our goal is that our players end each season better than they began it, return excited the next day, and carry their love of the game well beyond their teenage years.
What we coach for
Every player finishes the season better than they started it. That is the only measure we hold ourselves to.
Humble in victory, gracious in defeat — and the same respect for teammates, opponents and officials alike.
Hockey is a hard sport to learn. We teach children how to get up by themselves and skate on.
We want players still playing well past their teens. That is what successful coaching actually looks like.
Children keep coming back for the friends they make here. Squads train together and travel to tournaments together, and a week away with the team does as much for a player as a month of practice.
The Empire difference
Built on USA Hockey's ADM and Hockey Canada's CanSkate, with objective published criteria at every level. Parents can see exactly where their child is and what comes next.
Levels 1–2 are built personally by Jim Sir, one of the strongest skating coaches in Hong Kong. Without skating, nothing else holds.
The path from our ice to the national team has already been walked. Our assistant coach Agnes is the proof.
A registered
skating club
Ice Skating Institute (ISIAsia) of Empire Sports Club is an ISIAsia-registered skating club, and our professional coaches are all ISIAsia-registered coaches. Whether it's ice hockey or figure skating, our club students can obtain the ISIAsia certificate issued by our club after passing the qualification or examination.
We are the first ice skating club in Hong Kong that ice hockey students/players can be registered with ISIAsia. We are committed to innovating and pushing the boundaries of professional Hong Kong ice hockey and figure skating.
